I first saw Leyenda on
video some months ago and was blown away
by her movement, however at the time we
were not in the market for a filly or
mare. I continued to look at a number of
horses, hoping to get another stallion
to compete on alongside Infante, but
began to realize what a shame it would
be if I didn’t breed with Infante, for
myself, and for the breed. However, I
wanted new genetics, to complement those
I already had. I looked in the US but
the quality was just not there. We
thought about taking a filly option on
an in-utero foal but we felt the risks
outweighed the advantages, and decided
to look at 2-3yo mares in Spain instead.
Miriam Frenk once again helped out and
we viewed many videos of fillies and
mares, but I kept coming back to Leyenda.
Leyenda is an elegant,
upstanding young mare bred by Yeguada
Las Cadenas, Madrid, Spain. |

She is a red
buckskin, and will be the first buckskin
imported to Australia. This aside,
Leyenda has absolutely outstanding
movement, showing super elevation and
reach. As a 2yo, Leyenda won a Gold
Medal in Movement at the Feria de
International de Caballos, Verona,
Spain, and was overall Champion Junior
Movement. |
I believe this mare will complement
Infante perfectly.
Leyenda brings to
Australia some wonderful new genetics,
from her bucksin PRE sire, Clavijo. Her
lineage is mostly Conde Munoz which goes
back to Terry, Urquijo, Daza and
Military lines.
Leyenda will spend a year
maturing at the stud where she was bred,
before being put in foal to champagne
PRE stallion “Especial IV”
(pic right)
and shipped to Australia. ‘Especial IV”
is one of only a handful of rare
champagne coloured PRE horses, so it
will be interesting to see the end
result of this union. Especial is a
stunningly beautiful example of the PRE
breed. He is a baroque style horse with
‘wow’ movement, and the excellent
breeding of Lovera, Ignacio Bravo,
Baones, Daza and Military. |

Acquiring Leyenda is the last of the
building blocks for my dream! She completes the vision,
and I look forward to a future of breeding some super
foals and continuing to raise the profile of the Spanish
horse here in Australia!!!
